REASON #3: “I already pay property taxes that fund the schools. Why should I give any more?”
TRUTH: The budget for education in our state is constantly shrinking. We are fortunate to live in a district that has done everything possible to maintain the level of excellence that we have been accustomed to as parents. Our ESC program is a key component of that level of excellence but now depends on parent contributions to fund roughly one-third of its staff. You can certainly believe that your kids’ education should be covered by your property taxes, but it just isn’t true anymore. If your child is enrolled in one of our eight DMUSD schools, you have a reason to contribute.
As of today, we are facing a $450,000 gap as compared to last year’s campaign which will mean an average of one dropped ESC subject at each of our eight DMUSD elementary schools.
The problem is real and the time is now as our deadline for contributions is April 30th.
